Look out Bill and Ted, you might have some competition next year in the “Dimwitted Duo” genre.

Reports are circulating that the Farrely Brothers are set to write and direct a sequel to their 1994 hit Dumb and Dumber. They gave us a blurb about the potential plot.

“The story revolves around the fact that one of them may have sired a child. They want to go and find the child because he’s having a kidney problem and he wants to ask him for one of his kidneys.”

And just in case you were worried that Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne would have changed or wised up.

“I can tell you that there is no growth out of either one of them.”

According to those close to the production, Jeff Daniels (Newsroom) is on board. A normally sequel shy Jim Carrey (The Mask/Truman Show) may be another issue. His price tag is sure to be high, and his aversion to sequels after his disappointment with Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls may cause him pause. Carrey has publicly said he would be interested in returning for another go, but only time will tell if that was genuine or fan service. He wouldn’t be the first star to show interest in a project they never thought would be made, only to back out when it started to look like a reality. I’m looking at you Bill Murray, and your stunt on Letterman where you showed up dressed like Vehnkman.

The Farrely Brothers seem confident that they will woo Carrey over. They have set a tentative release for Autumn 2013.

Are you excited for a Dumb and Dumber sequel? Did you catch Dumb and Dumberer?

That John Denver is full of $hit man.

I don't see Carrey signing up for this. And without him the project dies.

I hope he signs up. I think it could be really funny. I just worry that he might phone it in.
