When The Fantastic Four reboot was first announced, production was considering casting a female in the villainous role of Doctor Doom (aka Victor von Doom). Well, if a new casting shortlist is to be believed, it looks like that rumor doesn’t hold water. The villainous role has apparently been narrowed down to these four gents: Sam Riley (On the Road), Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables), Toby Kebbell (Wrath of the Titans), or Domhnall Gleeson (About Time). Whoever ends up with the part, it’s going to be a 30-something actor from the U.K. who goes up against Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell in the title roles.
As The Wrap reports, Riley, Redmayne, Kebbell, and Gleeson are (fittingly) the final four for the role of The Fantastic Four foe of Doctor Doom. Jack Huston was also reported as being in the mix weeks ago, but his involvement in the picture is unclear at this point. Riley’s next big film is that of Disney’s Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie in the title role. Redmayne has a major feature of his own on the books with the Wachowski siblings’ Jupiter Ascending coming out this summer. Not to be left out, Kebbell has the 20th Century Fox sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes due out this July, and Legendary’s Warcraft adaptation coming in 2016. Finally, Gleeson stars in Jolie’s directorial effort later this year in the biopic drama, Unbroken. It’s easy to see why these four have made it to the final four for the coveted role as they’re clearly trending upwards on the Hollywood radar. Josh Trank’s The Fantastic Four opens June 19, 2015.
