Destiny Beta Goes Public and Important Details

Posted on July 24, 2014 at 4:10 pm by Felix Mui

Bungie has officially announced that everyone on both the Playstation and Xbox consoles who never pre-ordered for a code now have public access to the Destiny Beta. Anyone willing to help test the game out and in preparation for the stress test this weekend are in for a treat.

Our work is not done. There is more we can learn. To make this happen, we need more Guardians to play. This is, above all else, a test.
Today, at 4:00 PM PDT, we’re opening the Destiny Beta to anyone who wants to create a character and walk in their boots. There are, of course, some requirements. You’ll need to have a compatible console equipped with PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold. You’ll need to be brave.

Along with this announcement the Crucible, which is the game’s multiplayer PvP part of the game once again will host the Iron Banner that will feature two more Crucible maps: Rusted Lands (Earth) and Blind Watch (Mars). This is of course in addition to the existing basic Crucible maps First Light (Moon) and Shores of Time (Venus).

If you have yet to sample the elevated carnage and mayhem of this limited time event, here are some things you need to know:

  • You must meet with Lord Saladin before you can compete. Seek him out in the Tower, opposite the landing zone.
  • The Iron Banner is accessed as a separate playlist in the Crucible.
  • The power ratings on your weapons and armor are crucial to victory. While combat in the Crucible offers a level playing field, the Iron Banner demands your very best gear.
  • Victory earns you reputation and rank to unlock special Iron Banner gear, and you can only browse or acquire your rewards while the event is live!
  • Iron Banner challenges are available from the Bounty Tracker to make your exploits in battle even more profitable.
  • If you reach your competition-worthy rank of Level 5 while this event is happening, you’ll need to check in with Lord Shaxx first. He’ll issue your Crucible invitation in the Hall of Guardians, just down the stairs from the main landing zone in the Tower.

Iron Banner times are limited and will be hosted during the following times on both Friday and Saturday: 10AM-12PM, 2PM-4PM, and 7PM-9PM all in Pacific Time.

Additionally there is a planned server stress test at 2PM PDT on Saturday in which all players are encouraged to log in and play in to help Bungie in preparation for the final game. They’ve teased an exclusive item for use in the final game for all who do.
