Former CEO and founder of Monolith Productions Jason “Jace” Hall is gauging interested for a possible new entry in the Condemned franchise. Hall took to Facebook and asked if anybody would be interested in playing or even helping the development process for, potentially, Condemned 3.

Deep thought..and question…

I helped to create a video game console franchise called “Condemned.” I currently own the entire franchise.

There have been 2 game titles released for the franchise, “Condemned: Criminal Origins” and “Condemned: Bloodshot” – they both did well, and I am consistently asked when a third game might be created.

Since I am focused on other things, and will be for quite some time, this franchise is just sitting there.

I am contemplating finding an interested and proven Indie development team AND PROVIDING IT TO THEM, so that they can take over the franchise and move it forward.

As an indie, it can be very hard to get marketing/media attention for a title that you work on. This franchise is already quite known, has market demand, and is in an innovative genre/category.

Should I explore this idea further? What say you all?

Hall is doing a very memorable thing here by basically presenting the franchise on a silver platter and telling an indie developer, “Have fun.” Hall has usually been great when it comes to serving the consumers first and this is no exception. Also, the developer wouldn’t even need to offer cash as Hall is offering the rights for free, although some compensation might be in order.

Years ago, one of the developers behind the Condemned games  said that, “Sadly, it will never happen. Condemned 2 just didn’t sell enough copies.” The unnamed developer blamed the inclusion of a multiplayer mode as one of the reasons the second installment wasn’t as polished or playable as the original Condemned.  According to VGChartzCondemned 2: Bloodshot outsold its predecessor, but it obviously wasn’t enough. Both games received very good critical praise, however.

Condemned: Criminal Origins was released in 2005 for the Xbox 360 and Condemned 2: Bloodshot was available on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2008. The games feature a dark psychological horror in a first-person perspective. If I had a nickle for every time these games made me jump out of my seat…I’d have a lot of nickels.

How high is Condemned 3 on your wish list? Is this a game you need right now, or would you rather get another game? I’m fairly excited but skeptical that many studios will be vying to take the rights to the Condemned franchise.
