Comic-Con: THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES Press Conference Videos

San Diego Comic-Con may be over, but there is still plenty of goodies to report on. Peter Jackson’s conclusion to The Hobbit franchise The Battle of the Five Armies brought together a good chunk of the cast to talk about everything from the film’s scope and scale to the proper Elvish pronunciation of Smaug. It was a great and casual get together that included Jackson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andy Serkis, Luke Evans, Cate Blanchett, Lee Pace, Evangaline Lilly, Orlando Bloom, and Phillipa Boyens. I have been critical of the first two film’s but think that this will be the movie that makes up for their shortcomings. I am unsure how to react though to Jackson’s reluctance to compare the titular battle to either of the epic battles in Lord of the Rings. He keeps saying it’s different (which one would hope for) and that they weren’t going for grander or more epic with it’s scope. I am sure I am just reading too much into it, but my Spidey sense kept tingling that I may be underwhelmed.

You can check out the videos below and the film opens in theaters on December 17th.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies:

“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.
