CLERKS III to be Kevin Smith’s final film

Posted on December 7, 2012 at 11:47 am by David "Snackbar" Edmundson

Kevin Smith has been claiming that his hockey film Hit Something would be his final film. He had stated that he had one more movie in him, and that he would then leave film making forever… probably. Recently Hit Something was changed from a film to a miniseries so the Smith faithful were thinking he wouldn’t really be a liar if he made something else, right? Then today Smith tweeted;

So Smith appears to be stating that once Jeff Anderson (Randall) signs on he will make a sequel to his first film, thus completing a cinematic circle. It’s safe to assume that Anderson, who’s only major film credits were directed by Smith, will happily ride the train one more time, but will movie goers. Smith is still a mighty force in the “geek” world, but his last great flick was 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and his last few films; Red State, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Cop Out, and Clerks II ranged between so-so (Porno) to awful (Red State). Most of Smith’s original legion (myself included) have moved onto other directors like Judd Apatow and Adam McKay, but would love to see Smith go out on top and with a bang. As much as I have been disappointed by his films in the past. I always root for Smith and truly hope that Clerks III is amazing and bookmarks a career that started so great.

      You really thought Red State was aweful? I thought it was fantastic!

    • You called "Red State" awful? You are a crackhead…

    • I agree with Snackbar, but maybe "awful" was a strong word. It was certainly different from every other Kevin Smith movie. And of course that was by design, so it's not fair to compare it to Chasing Amy or Mallrats(one of my favorites)… or any comedy, really. You can't fault a guy for wanting to branch out and wade into the waters of an unfamiliar genre.

      But then again, I actually kinda liked Clerks 2, so what do I know?

      • Clerks 2 was fantastic, probably his best of the "Jersey" movies.

      Red State was AWFUL!!!!!! There was no real story. Every character was poorly actualized. Don't even get me started on Clerks 2. What's with the 30 minute, Dante goes and rides a go-kart scene. Bad bad bad bad. And I'm the anti-Justin, I usually love everything.

      • I will fight you.

          No way. You do martial arts. You can probably catch bullets with your teeth and what not.
