Christopher Nolan is set to helm a new sci-fi picture called Interstellar, which his brother Jonathan Nolan has written. Christopher Nolan will reportedly direct and produce the picture. The plot revolves around a group of explorers traveling through a wormhole and deals with time travel and alternate dimensions. The script is said to be inspired by the work of Kip Thorne, a physicist at Caltech. Steven Spielberg was previously in the mix to direct the picture, but it looks like the Nolan brothers will reunite once again.

News on Nolan being in negotiations to direct Interstellar comes via Heat Vision, after what is described as being a very complex deal-making process that has been underway for several months. It’s unclear at this point whether Spielberg will have any involvement with the picture, though his schedule is more open now that Robopocalypse has been shelved. The deal is being set up at Paramount, though both Paramount and Warner Bros. will make the picture; Lynda Obst is attached to produce.

This should delight Nolan fans who believe he is at his best when not constrained to a pre-established franchise. What do you think is Nolan’s best work?
