Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher) has signed on to direct Tom Cruise in the next installment of the Mission Impossible franchise. The director tweeted earlier today “Mission: Accepted.”

“I am thrilled to reunite with Chris for the latest installment in the Mission series,” said Cruise. “I began producing the films with the goal that a different director with his own vision would make each one.  Chris is an extraordinary filmmaker who will deliver the heart-pounding action and thrills that audiences around the world have come to expect from the Mission: Impossible franchise.”

Skydance Productions will co-finance MI:5 with Paramount, as well as produce the film with Tom Cruise Productions, Paramount and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot. This isn’t their first rodeo either, all parties involved worked together on the previous installment.

It’s worth mentioning that Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol earned almost $700 million worldwide. Ghost Protocol is also Tom Cruise’s highest grossing film to date. Not too shabby Mr. Cruise. I’m pretty sure Days of Thunder is drafting right behind it, though.
