Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Day In Negotiations to Join the VACATION Sequel/Reboot

Chris Hemsworth is looking to tackle a full-on comedy, as word comes that the actor is currently in negotiations to join the cast of the Vacation reboot/sequel.  Horrible Bosses and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 scribes John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein wrote and are making their directorial debut on the film, which stars Ed Helms as the grown Rusty Griswold who sets out to take his family on a road trip similar to the one he took with his family when he was younger.  You know, the one that ended with his father taking a nice security guard hostage and forcing him to take his family on all the rides at Wally World.

Per THR, Hemsworth will be playing the husband of Rusty’s sister Audrey in the film.  That part has not yet been cast, but Chris Hemsworth continues filming scenes for "Thor 2" London, UKapparently Hemsworth had been itching to do a comedy for some time.  He’s certainly shown flashes of comedic chops in The Avengers and the Thor films for Marvel, and he was excellent in the F1 racing film Rush.

In addition to Hemsworth, Charlie Day is also in negotiations to join the cast of Vacation.  He will cameo as a river rafting guide in the film, which also stars Christina Applegate as Rusty’s wife.  Vacation veterans Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo are expected to make cameos themselves as Clark and Ellen Griswold.  The pic was delayed last year when Daley and Goldstein couldn’t come to an agreement with New Line about the rating, but it appears that the issue has been cleared up as production is scheduled to begin in September.  No word on whether it will be R or PG-13, but the scribes have excelled at handling comedies of both kinds.

Hemsworth will next be seen onscreen in the Michael Mann thriller Blackhat on January 16, 2015 followed by Ron Howard’s adaptation of In the Heart of the Sea on March 13th, and of course Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1st.  Day, meanwhile, reprises his role in the comedy sequel Horrible Bosses 2 when the film hits theaters this coming November 26th.
