Filmmaker Bryan Singer is deep in pre-production on the upcoming sequel X-Men: Apocalypse, and unlike say Christopher Nolan or J.J Abrams, the director is being very forthcoming about the film. He already shared a previous set photo revealing the danger room door, and today Singer went to Instagram to unveil a piece of X-Men: Apocalypse concept art showing…something. I’m relatively well versed in the comics, but I don’t really know what we’re looking at, but judging by the comments some seem to believe it is the entity “ship”, which in the comics acts as the force that transforms the first-living mutant En Sabah Nur into the hulking villain Apocalypse.

I’m sure Singer and his writers (Simon Kinberg from Days of Future Past and Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris from X2) have come up with some twists to the comics origin and storyline of Apocalypse, but it certainly appears that they’re including some of the larger aspects of the comic arc. Oscar Isaac is onboard to bring Apocalypse to life, so it’ll be interesting to see how the character translates to the big screen.

The most exciting aspect of this tease to me, however, is Singer’s mention of Grant Major, which seems to suggest that Major will be acting as the production designer on Apocalypse. Major’s credits include the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Frighteners, and Peter Jackson’s King Kong, so if he is indeed the production designer on X-Men, this is good news.

Check out the X-Men: Apocalypse concept art below. If Apocalypse is anything like the filming of Days of Future Past, Singer will be sharing plenty of behind-the-scenes teases from the set once production gets underway this spring. The film opens in theaters on May 27, 2016.

Some production art. #XmenApocalypse #GrantMajor I was a little busy but will continue to snap more.
