Bryan Singer Confirms X-Men: Days of Future Past

Bryan Singer sat down with IGN, and confirmed the X-Men: First Class sequel will be titled X-Men: Days of Future Past. During the interview, Bryan Singer stated “It’s going to be very ambitious. It’s called Days of Future Past, and it deals with some aspects of that comic, but also some very new things.”

Published by Marvel Comics in 1981, Days of Future Past was a two issue story arc from The Uncanny X-Men issues #141 and #142. The story takes place in both present day, and a dystopian alternate future that is a result of the X-Men failing to stop an assassination. In the future, mutants are held in internment camps, and Sentinels are in control of the United States. Several X-Men team members are either dead or locked up in the camps. When asked in the interview if there was a chance for a cross-over with the other X-Men films, Bryan answered “There is a strong desire to broaden out the universe. I mean, the X-Men universe is every bit on its own as big as the Marvel universe, and I think it’s time to reach out and explore it and perhaps even bring some connectivity between the films, as Marvel has done so well. You may see some of that.”

James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), and Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) are all set to reprise their roles. Matthew Vaughn will also be returning to direct the X-Men sequel. Obviously the re-telling of this story will differ from the comic books, but which characters or elements do you think are a must? Which actors (besides Hugh Jackman as Wolverine) would you like to see return? Do you want to see Sentinels smashing and grabbing mutants? Let us know!

I would love to see some sentinels. This is one of the great storylines from Marvel and hopefully they utilize Gambit and Bishop.

    • Nathan Grey

I want Cable. He is my favorite mutant and a totally beast.

    • I liked how they used Bishop in the animated series for this story line, rather than Kitty Pryde. Honestly though, I love X-Men and would watch anything.

    • Mr. The Plague

As long as Storm isn't in it saying things like "you know what happens to a toad when it's struck by lightning? The same thing that happens to everything else." BLEH.

    • Zero Cool

Storm sucks!! Luckily she's one of the ones killed in the future.
