BLIZZCON 2013 – Video Interview With HEROES OF THE STORM Senior Game Designer Richard Khoo

Probably the biggest surprise for me at this year’s Blizzcon was the access an reception for Heroes of the Storm. For those of you unfamiliar with the game, it began as a map that the Blizzard community modded, and led to the creation of an entire genre of games, think DotA and League of Legends. Blizzard refined it and had a playable version available at 2011’s Blizzcon, they took all the feedback from that convention and poured it into the project, and it appears that the time spent making this game was well worth it.

The game was crisp, and from my untrained eyes ready to ship tomorrow. Of course my standards and Blizzard’s standards are significantly different, and they want to add more heroes and maps to the game. The long and short of it; imagine League of Legends but instead of nameless hero #6 you get to play as Illidan, or Diablo, or even Kerrihan. The maps also offer another level of gameplay not seen in LoL, and while thus far the cast of Heroes has been limited to the Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo universes; Blizzard plans to add some of their earlier characters as well like Blackthorne, Lost Vikings, and even Rock n Roll Racing.
