Benedict Cumberbatch Leaves Guillermo del Toro’s CRIMSON PEAK

Guillermo del Toro’s next film is set to be the supernatural gothic romance film Crimson Peak. The film is supposed to begin filming in January, but it keeps losing it’s cast members. Emma Stone dropped out recently due to a scheduling conflict with her next project, which is going to be directed by Cameron Crowe. Now Heat Vision is reporting that Benedict Cumberbatch has also bowed out of the film. No reason was given for the Star Trek: Into Darkness star’s departure, but given del Toro’s reputation as an “actor’s director”, it is more than likely a scheduling thing as well.  Mia Wasikowska replaced Stone when she left, so I am sure a Cumberbatch-esque replacement will be announced shortly.

Del Toro is currently gearing up to shoot the pilot for his FX series The Strain before commencing production on Crimson Peak early next year.  The filmmaker previously told us that Peak will be his “first adult movie in the English language,” so expectations are high.  Jessica Chastain and Charlie Hunnam also star.
