Ben Foster Unveils Who He Will Play In The WARCRAFT Film

Ben Foster is a great actor that keeps popping up in the strangest of places, from superhero movies, to re-imagined Westerns, to military thrillers. While he’s set to lead Stephen Frears’ Untitled Lance Armstrong Biopic in the lead role, not much is known about his part in Duncan Jones’ upcoming Warcraft adaptation. Make that, not much was known, since Foster recently spilled the magic beans about the character he’d be playing in the MMORPG-turned-feature film.

Also starring Paula Patton, Travis Fimmel, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Rob Kazinsky, Daniel Wu, and Clancy Brown, Warcraft opens in 2D and 3D on March 11, 2016.

When speaking to IGN recently, Foster had the following to say about his role in Warcraft:

medivh-warcraft“The character in Warcraft that I play is named Medivh. He’s a mage, which is essentially a sorcerer. He came up in a time protecting an area, and the way he protected this area was through magic. As peace returned to this land he took a break. He hung up his staff, so to speak, or let his guns get dusty. We meet him as his friends are returning asking for his help in a battle.”

The character appeared in Warcraft III and World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade installments. Foster also mentioned that, although his character is not motion-capture, he does interact with a lot of characters and creatures that are.

Medivh aside, Foster had more to say about Jones’ take on the story:

“What’s exciting about Duncan Jones’ take on this video game is that it shows both sides of the war. It shows both sides of a conflict, which is exciting to me. It’s not just a video game turned into a movie. It’s asking, hopefully, an important question of, where do we limit our compassion for what we consider to be the bad guys?”

Head over to IGN to read the entire article, but in short Foster says Warcraft is “one helluva 3D event.”
