Earlier today WB Interactive Entertainment released a cinematic announcement trailer for the 2014 release of Batman: Arkham Knight. The game is set one year after the events of Batman: Arkham City and features the return of several classic bat-villains including Scarecrow, Two-Face, Penguin, and Harley Quinn.
Rocksteady Studios is cranking things up a few notches by allowing players to take control of the batmobile for the first time in the franchise. However, our favorite news to spill out of the Arkham Knight announcement comes from inside the pages of the new issue of Game Informer, where Rocksteady game director Sefton Hill said, “This is a single-player game. There is no multiplayer. Right at the start this was our vision.”
Further noting, the team plans “to focus on making the best single-player experience we can. We don’t feel that it needs a multiplayer element. Warner Bros. backed that up right at the start.”
Hopefully, Batman: Arkham Knight will launch with far fewer bugs and glitches that plagued so many gamers in Batman: Arkham Origins. Focusing on a strong single player experience might be a step in the right direction. I’m also a little surprised the game will only be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. While I find this news encouraging, I’m sure many folks out there will be upset they’ll have to upgrade from their PS3 or Xbox 360 to become the Dark Knight.
Check out the trailer and get ready for more Free-flow face-pounding combat.
