Who misses the days of Hercules and Xena? Well, you’re in luck! The BBC is rolling out a new television series that combines Greek mythology with the legend of Atlantis in a show called (you guessed it) Atlantis. Check out the trailer below.

According the official synopsis, Atlantis is:

A fantasy drama set in a world of legendary heroes and mythical creatures. Far from home and desperate for answers, Jason washes up on the shores of an ancient land. A mysterious place; a world of bull leaping, of snake haired goddesses and of palaces so vast it was said they were built by giants – this is the city of Atlantis. Aided by his two new friends, Pythagoras and Hercules, Jason embarks on a voyage of discovery, and salvation, which sees him brush shoulders with Medusa, come face to face with the Minotaur and even do battle with the dead.

It sounds perfectly full of the fantastical and campy, and Robert Baratheon is playing Hercules! Huzzah! Now check out this sneak peak that the BBC released in anticipation of the show’s premiere in the UK this weekend:

But wait, the first clip from the pilot shows us the present day. Whabuhdahwuuuuhhhhh? I’m guessing that Jason goes down in the submarine and finds himself transported to the city of Atlantis and Ancient Greece. Who wants to bet me that’s the premise?

The show premieres this Saturday in the UK, but it won’t hit American screens until November 23rd as part of BBC America’s “Supernatural Saturday” lineup. No doubt it will follow or lead into Doctor Who when it comes back for the new season.
