Assassin's Creed: Checkmate

The release of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is still well over a month away. Luckily, the folks over at Machinima know how to keep our appetites in check with a little taste of booty. Err… I mean fan films. Speaking of which, take a look at this amazing live-action short film Assassin’s Creed: Checkmate, written and directed by Joe Miale.

Anyone that has ever played an Assassin’s Creed game knows there is some trial and error to be had in pulling off the perfect kill. How many times have you jumped the gun on what looked like easy prey, only to be taken out by an unseen opponent? If your play-style is anything like mine (run and gun), I would guess probably quite often. The same goes for Kenway in this video.

Created by writer/director Joe Miale, a Machinima partner based in Los Angeles who has worked on a host of fanboy television series including Who Wants to be A SuperHero along with an original series GameWorld (which he sold to Machinima) and another live-action short based on Half-Life (which will be released in an upcoming week as part of Machinima’s series of shorts), Assassin’s Creed: Checkmate takes place in the 1700’s Caribbean as Kenwaystumbles upon a robbery in progress and has only a split second to make his killer move.

As always, look to Machinima’s YouTube channel for other amazing fan films.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will be available on PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U on October 29, with PC and next-gen consoles soon to follow.
