Amiibo Figure Overview

Yesterday Nintendo uploaded an Amiibo figures overview video with details on release dates, game compatibility, and functionality. The first wave features 12 figures and is set to launch along side Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on November 21. The second wave includes six figures and is due sometime in December. The third wave will be available in February 2015, and features 12 Amiibo figures including Toon Link, Sheik, Ike, Shulk, Lucario, Meta Knight, King Dedede, Rosalina & Luma, Bowser, Sonic, and Mega-Man.

Some of the Amiibo figures from the third wave will be exclusive to certain retailers. Today, it was revealed that Shulk is actually a GameStop exclusive. This Xenoblade pretty boy is likely to be a hit, but I’m curious how many consumers would rather pass on this Amiibo than deal with GameStop.

Amiibos were first announced over the summer at this year’s E3. The new interactive figures use NFC tech (near field communication) to work with video games. Simply place an Amiibo figure on your Wii U GamePad to activate them with supported games like Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart 8, and Super Smash Bros.
