The Ninjabot

We’ve seen the first images and character breakdowns, and a set of creepy teaser videos, but now FX has released the first full trailer for American Horror Story: Hotel, the fourth season of Ryan Murphy‘s twisted horror anthology series. As they do with every season, FX has turned out a stylish, catchy promotional campaign that completely grabs my interest. Unfortunately, most of the time that leads to less-than-satisfying results by about the third episode. But they hook everyone every single year, and I’m exited for the new season.

American Horror Story has gone full-tilt diva. I love the fun, poppy vibe of the trailer, and as indisputably wonderful as Jessica Lange is, I’m excited by the prospect of a season that wasn’t shaped around her character. ‘Murder House’, American Horror Story‘s first season, is the most cohesive, well-told story to date, and Lange’s acerbic, scene-stealing performance emerged out of the strength of the season, rather than the other way around. Hopefully, in her absence AHS can undergo a gentle reboot that puts the focus back on perverting and exploiting our base, primal fears rather than creating showcases for their preeminent diva. Although, judging by the way Lady Gaga‘s name flashes over the title, they may have just subbed in a pop star for a movie legend this go ’round. Check out the new trailer and judge for yourself below.

American Horror Story Season 4 stars Lady Gaga, Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Matt Bomer, Angela Bassett, Finn Wittrock, Wes Bentley, Chloe Sevigny, Cheyenne Jackson and Denis O’Hare. Evan Peters, Darren Criss, Max Greenfield and Mare Winningham are also slated to appear. Hotel debuts October 7th on FX.
