Alexandre Desplat Rogue OneDisney has brought Oscar-winning composer Alexandre Desplat (Godzilla, The Grand Budapest Hotel) aboard to score the upcoming Star Wars standalone film Rogue One.

This news comes from an interview from Radio Classique’s Culture Club (via Film Music Reporter), where Desplat confirms he will be reunited with Gareth Edwards in Rogue One. The two previously worked together on bringing the King of Monsters to life in Godzilla, which was released last summer.

Last week Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger hosted a shareholder meeting where he announced Rogue One as the title for the Star Wars standalone film scheduled to release December 16, 2016. Rogue One will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla) and written by Oscar nominee Chris Weitz (Cinderella,About a Boy, Antz). Academy Award nominee Felicity Jones will star in the film, but the plot has yet to be announced.

According to StarWars.com “The idea for the story of Rogue One came from John Knoll, an Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor and chief creative officer at Industrial Light & Magic.”

Are you cool with John Williams sitting this one out or are you ready to form your own rebellion and take over Disney? Keep in mind the man is 83 years old. Sound off in the comments below.
