Chu For The New Masters Of The Universe Movie?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jon M. Chu is talking with Sony to direct Masters of the Universe, a live action adaptation of the 1980’s toy line from Mattel. Mr. Chu’s directing credits include Step Up 2, Step Up 3D, and most recently G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Dolph Lundgren starred as He-Man in the 1987 film Masters of the Universe, directed by Gary Goddard. A large portion of the film took place on Earth, rather than He-Man’s home planet, Eternia. The film also added several new characters to the franchise including Gwildor, Saurod, Blade, and Karg. Sadly, it was a box office flop.

Alex Litvak and Mike Finch wrote a script entitled Grayskull, which Sony Pictures and Escape Artists have tried several times to get off the ground. Perhaps by adding Jon M. Chu to the mix, He-Man will return to the big screen.

I would love to see this movie if it's done right. Eternia always looks so cool in the cartoon, and I would hate for it to look silly.

It sucks G.I Joe was pushed back to 2013. I was pretty excited to see it. If Jon M. Chu can make He-Man half as cool as the Joe trailer, I'm totally down to see it.
