Snowdrop next-gen engine

Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Studios premiered a trailer for the Snowdrop next-gen engine used in Tom Clancy’s The Division during the VGX Awards held last Saturday. The trailer showcases the raw power of the Snowdrop engine, dishing up beautiful effects, scenery, and lighting. It’s a little weird thinking a city in shambles could actually look so pretty.

Highlights taken from the trailer:

  • Time of day – a dynamic day/night cycle with volumetric lighting.
  • Dynamic Global Illumination – a light-probe system that captures light realistically.
  • Procedural Destruction – surfaces react with unprecedented physical accuracy.
  • Advanced Particle System – reacts dynamically to environmental factors.
  • Dynamic Material Shaders – allows the world to react to the constantly changing weather.

Well if nothing else The Division will certainly look amazing. Let’s just hope it’s as fun to play as it is to look at.
